Tasks

Our project will work through four key phases, based on various elements on the teaching and learning of reading, as outlined below:

Phase 1 - My Favourite Book - January 2018 – May 2018
* Create a blog to share favourite fiction books.  Discuss the structure of the texts – make comparisons.
Explore common and contrasting themes. Make recommendations.
Children will select favourite sections of their chosen books, explaining and justifying reasons.
They will develop the ability to summarise plots in a succinct way.
They will learn to challenge the points of view of others in a courteous way.
* Inter- School contest, entitled ‘It’s worth reading this book’
An exploration into book titles published in all participating countries /languages. (Have children in all three participating schools read Harry Potter?  C.S. Lewis The Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe, etc.)
* Hold an evening / after school reading session. Bring your favourite book, staff to read stories to children.  Hold a joint Skype meeting during this session.

Phase 2 - Traditional and Cultural Stories - May 2018 – October 2018
* Children will become familiar, firstly, with a range of traditional tales from their own country.  They will share these with children in partner schools, via a range of communication methods.(blogging, dramatization, puppet shows, animations etc)
* Children will then, inspired by recommendations from children in partner schools, read a range of traditional stories from partner school locations.
* Comparisons will then be made.
* Blogging and Skype conferences will continue as a means of children communicating.

Phase 3 - Poetry - October 2018 – February  2019
* Explore a range of poems in own language (and possibly some simple ones in the languages of the partner schools).
* Share favourite poems through project blog and give reasons for opinions.
* Learn and perform poems by heart. Skype conference poetry performance.  Performances can also be posted on YouTube with parental permission.

Phase 4 - Reading and Technology - February 2019 – June 2019
* Children will explore ways in which technology can support / hinder reading.  They will discuss the argument about whether Kindles (or other reading devices) support or hinder reading for enjoyment, justifying their views.
* Children will use picture books to write their own versions of a range of story books.  Use QR codes of the Aurasma ap (android or ios available) These interactive books will be given to partner schools.
